【明報專訊】Pop star, composer (作曲家), songwriter and recording artist, John Winston Lennon was born on 9 October 1940, in Liverpool, the UK.
Lennon was the founder member of the band The Beatles. The Beatles was the most popular band in Britain. In 1964, it became the first band to break out big in the United States.
Lennon left The Beatles in September 1969. After The Beatles broke up, Lennon followed up with Imagine, the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed (受讚揚的) of all John Lennon's post-Beatles efforts.
In 1980, just a few weeks after his album Double Fantasy released, Lennon was shot by a deranged (瘋狂的) fan in front of his apartment complex in New York. Lennon died at the age of 40 at the Roosevelt Hospital on 8 December 1980, after receiving multiple gun shots in the back.
His death affected millions of people, record sales soared (暴漲), and he continues to be admired by new generations of fans.
