【明報專訊】Watch out when you have champagne to celebrate anything. Ip Ho-yee, 22, was arrested for common assault (普通襲擊罪). It is alleged that, on October 10, she sprayed champagne on a security guard outside the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR (中央人民政府駐香港特別行政區聯絡辦公室,簡稱中聯辦) while celebrating Liu Xiaobo's (劉曉波) win of the Nobel Peace Prize.
The security guard called the police. However, Ip Ho-yee said she had not done that intentionally and champagne splashed everywhere then. She was released on HK$500 bail and is required to report to the police in November.
Some legislators and lawyers are unhappy about the police's move. They say they ought to have investigated further before charging Ip with common assault. Critics, some of whom are former police officers, have even said the police have become a political tool.
