【明報專訊】Madonna, a biological mother of two, adopted David Banda, a Malawian boy, in 2006, when he was one. Madonna came across him during a visit to an orphanage there. She was impressed by the boy's liveliness. She went through an adoption procedure in the hope of taking him to the United Kingdom. According to local law, an adoptive parent must live with the child in question for at least a year before he or she can pass social workers' assessment. Furthermore, an adoptive parent must be a local citizen. Though she met none of the requirements, she managed to adopt the kid thanks to the local authorities' intervention. Upon his arrival in the UK, Madonna declared him a new member of her family. Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie has attacked the adoption, saying Madonna should never have visited Africa with the sole intention of choosing an infant from the orphanage. She has also accused Madonna of making her fame and money the basis of the adoption.
