【明報專訊】Two US billionaires, Microsoft founder Bill Gates (微軟創辦人蓋茨) and head of Berkshire Hathaway Warren Buffett (巴郡董事長兼總裁巴菲特), who have already persuaded a number of extremely wealthy Americans to give away 50% of their wealth, hosted a dinner for some of China's richest people in Beijing on September 29. They wanted to learn more about philanthropy (善慈事業) in China.
Rumour circulated in the run-up of the dinner that the two billionaires would try to persuade their guests to give more to charity and some wealthy invitees were reluctant to attend it.
Among those who appeared at the dinner party were Pan Shiyi, CEO of property developer SOHO China (SOHO中國董事長潘石屹), Zhang Xin (張欣), his wife, and Mengniu Dairy founder Niu Gensheng (蒙牛創辦人牛根生).
Bill Gates and Warren Buffett made no attempt to persuade any of their guests to donate money, and none pledged to do so, at the dinner party.
