【明報專訊】According to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, the purpose of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance is to protect the privacy interests of living individuals in relation to personal data. It safeguards the free flow of personal data to Hong Kong from restrictions by countries that already have data protection laws, thereby contributing to Hong Kong's continued economic wellbeing. It applies to any person (data user) that controls the collection, holding, processing or use of personal data.
The government has proposed changes to the Ordinance so that businesses will be held more accountable for using their consumers' personal data.
