【明報專訊】Hugh Grant, actor, was born on 9 September, 1960 in London, England. Hugh Grant studied English at Oxford before pursuing a career in theatre. He worked in repertory (劇團) and as an advertising copywriter before forming his own comedy troupe (喜劇團)-the Jockeys of Norfolk.

Much of Hugh Grant's early work went unnoticed. It wasn't until the release of the hit comedy Four Weddings and a Funeral (《四個婚禮一個葬禮》) in 1994 that the handsome actor became internationally known. His charming performance as a fool in love earned him a Best Actor Golden Globe.

In 1995, just before the release of the actor's US film debut Nine Months (《九月之癢》) with Julianne Moore, he was arrested for engaging in a lewd (猥褻的) act in a parked car with Hollywood prostitute Divine Brown. The scandal and his mug shot (警方為疑犯存檔照片) instantly circulated through media outlets. It was followed by a contrite (痛悔的) apology on The Tonight Show to his then-girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley.
