【明報專訊】Chief Executive Donald Tsang (行政長官曾蔭權) announced towards the end of last October the government would soon consult the public about legislating for the method of selecting the Chief Executive and that of forming the Legislative Council in 2012.
He said an important step had been taken in Hong Kong's constitutional development. Last June the Legislative Council passed the amendments to the electoral methods. The National People's Congress (全國人大常委會) has approved the draft plans. That means the completion of the legal process of amending the CE and Legco electoral methods. Donald Tsang added it was hoped that the local legislation for the two electoral methods would go through in a few months so that political parties and would-be candidates could make early preparations.
