【明報專訊】It was reported last month that Peter Lee Ka-Kit, the eldest son of Henderson Land Development's chairman, had hired a surrogate mother (代母) to give birth to his triplet sons. The report has aroused a lot of discussion. Some days ago, Secretary for Food and Health Dr York Chow Yat-ngok (食物及衛生局長周一嶽) revealed that a surrogacy case had been referred to the police.
Dr Chow made that revelation when he answered legislator Cyd Ho Sau-lan's (立法會議員何秀蘭) question about the government's policy on Hong Kong people's use of commercial surrogacy services in other places. He stressed that commercial surrogacy was against Hong Kong law.
It is believed that the case is Lee's case though Peter Lee has never mentioned who the woman is. However, Democratic Party legislator James To Kun-sun (立法會議員涂謹申) takes the view that the police investigation is unlikely to lead to prosecution because evidence is hard to find.
